Article 1 Name and Objectives
Section 1: Name; the official club name is the Southern Boykin Spaniel Club, Inc. herein after called "the Club".
Section 2: Objective
a) To get people interested in training their Boykin Spaniel and having quality time with other Boykin owners.
b) To encourage, promote, and train the natural qualities of the Boykin Spaniel to hunt and retrieve game.
c) To hold Boykin Spaniel Society sanctioned hunt tests.
d) To encourage the health of the breed.
e) To provide education regarding Boykin Spaniels to the public.
f) To encourage other dog and owner activities such as: fly ball, agility training, obedience, dock diving, and therapy dog.
Section 3:
a) The Club shall not be conducted for profit and no profits or remainder from dues or donations to the club shall benefit any club members.
b) If the club dissolves, all remaining property and funds will be distributed to the Boykin Spaniel Society.
Section 4: The Club Board of Directors may revise and amend the constitution and bylaws as may be required to better serve the membership for these objectives.
Article 2 Club Year and Membership
Section 1: The Club will hold a minimum of 2 events a year, one of which will be a training type event.
Section 2:
a) An application must be made to become a member with payment of dues. Should the Board reject a membership, a refund will be given.
b) The rate of membership shall be set by the Board of Directors.
c) The membership will allow members to attend events; if they participate with a dog, there may be a fee to cover the cost of the events; non-members attending a training day or event will be assessed a non-member charge for all participating dogs, which will be set by the Board of Directors.
d) The membership covers the member and his immediate family household, including dependents until the age of 18.
Article 3 Discipline
a) All members should act responsibly and respectfully to other members, volunteers, judges, bird boys, landowners, and the land, etc.
b) All members shall treat all dogs with respect and refrain from using excessive force in any manner.
c) If there is a formal complaint made to the Board of Directors concerning a member, the board will meet to decide what action will be taken.
Article 4 Board of Directors and Elections
a) The officers of the Board of Directors will consist of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
b) Terms will be one year.
c) Voting will occur by mail during the summer break.
d) All nominations of a member to serve on the board must be made by June 1st.
e) Election results and introduction of new Board of Directors will be made by August 1st.
f) Any member may serve on committees as needed and will be appointed by the President.
g) Including the officers, the Board of Directors will consist of nine members
h) In the event of a tie Board vote, the president may vote to break the tie.
